Israel’s Secret Sterilization Scandal: How Ethiopian Jewish Women Were Forced Into Contraception

In 2013, Israel’s government was caught coercively injecting Ethiopian Jewish women with long-term contraceptives without their consent—a racist population control scheme disguised as "healthcare." Over 50,000 Ethiopian Jews (known as Beta Israel) had immigrated to Israel, only to face systemic discrimination. Then came the bombshell: medical staff admitted pressuring women to accept Depo-Provera shots, often during vulnerable moments like visa renewals or medical checkups. Many were told they’d be denied education or housing if they refused.

The goal? Slow the "birth rate of Black Jews." While Israel denied official policy, leaked documents proved the practice was widespread. A decade later, victims still demand justice—but in a country obsessed with "demographic threats," some lives matter less than others.
